If you have an opportunity to travel by boat on Georgian Bay, my
suggestion is to sieze it. You will never forget this wonderful
experience. What you see in this image is eight power boats rafted
together in the secluded Rat Portage off Frazer Bay. This is the life
for boaters everywhere. Anchor your boat in shelter off "the big
water"; Lake Huron and tie to shore, then wait for your buddies to
join on. Spend the weekend socialising or fishing and partying from
this floating, temporary community.
I have spent many a weekend aboard my brother's boat,
Ad-Dick-Tive out of Killarney, Ontario and can attest to the shear
delight of spending the time on the water. This painting was inspired
by a photograph my brother Dick took while rafting at this location.
There are a lot of artists who choose to paint romantic sailboats in
similar settings and I felt it was time one of us gave some artistic
representation to the power boaters.
